Imprisoned since 2012, Azharul Islam was sentenced to death last year under Hasina Wajid’s government

(Web Desk): The Supreme Court of Bangladesh has overturned the death sentence of Jamaat-e-Islami leader Azharul Islam and ordered his release.
According to a foreign news agency, the court acquitted Azharul Islam of charges related to crimes against humanity.
Azharul Islam had been imprisoned since 2012 and was sentenced to death last year during the tenure of the Hasina Wajid government.
The news agency reported that Azharul Islam is one of six politicians who were sentenced to death during Hasina Wajid’s previous term in office. Among them, four were from Jamaat-e-Islami, and one was a leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
According to Azharul Islam’s lawyer, "He is fortunate that the death sentence was not carried out. It is because he is still alive that he has now received justice."
