Duty magistrate expresses anger over prosecutor's absence during hearing


Islamabad: Omar Hayat, the accused in the murder case of TikToker Sana Yousaf, was produced in the Islamabad district court on Wednesday, where the court accepted the request for an identity parade of the accused and sent him to jail on a 14-day judicial remand.
Sana Yousaf, 17, from Chitral, was shot dead on June 2 in her house in Sector G-13, Islamabad, where she lived with her mother and other relatives.
The accused fled after the incident and was arrested the next day, and a case was registered against him under the murder section at the Sumbal police station in Islamabad.
Umar Hayat, 22, the accused in the murder of Sana Yousaf, was produced in the court of Duty Judicial Magistrate Ahmed Shahzad Gondal today with a covered face.
When the hearing began, the prosecutor read out the text of the case in the Sana Yousaf murder case.
During the hearing, due to the absence of the prosecutor and district prosecutor of the relevant court, Judicial Magistrate Ahmed Shahzad inquired: ‘Where are the prosecutors of my court? Generally, prosecutors do not come to the court, they have all come today’.
The Judicial Magistrate further asked to call the district prosecutor to the courtroom, to which the duty prosecutor replied that ‘the prosecutor is on leave.’
The Judicial Magistrate said: ‘The case will proceed if the district prosecutor comes’. While talking to the investigation officer, he said that today is a high-profile case, so all the prosecutors have arrived.
Later, the court adjourned the hearing until the district prosecutor arrives.
After the adjournment, the court granted the accused a 14-day judicial remand.
The day after Sana Yousaf’s murder, Inspector General of Police Islamabad Ali Nasir told a press conference: “This was a case of repeated rejections. The 22-year-old suspect, Omar, was trying to contact Sana Yousaf, but she was repeatedly rejecting him”.
He said that ‘On May 29, the accused tried to contact Sana, he also reached her house and tried to meet, but was not successful’.
‘On June 2, the accused tried to meet again. Then there was failure, after which he entered the house and killed Sana Yousuf’.
The IG said that the accused was arrested from Faisalabad and in this regard, social media accounts and more than 300 call records were analyzed, while footage from Safe City Islamabad and private cameras was also obtained.
