Web Desk : The UK Health Agency has confirmed the first case of a new COVID-19 variant in the country. The COVID variant NB.1.8.1 has been detected in England, with only a few cases recorded so far.
However, it remains unclear how many cases of this new variant have been reported in Scotland, Wales, or Northern Ireland.
First identified in January 2025, this variant has already spread across multiple states in the United States, Australia, and Thailand.
Dr Gayatri Amrithalingam, Deputy Director of the agency, said that this variant does not pose a greater risk of severe illness compared to other variants.
