He will decide on increase in salaries in light of report


Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif took notice of the increase in the salaries of the Speaker, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, and the Chairman, Deputy Chairman of the Senate, and sought a report from the Speaker and Chairman of the Senate.
According to the media reports, the Prime Minister will decide on the increase in the salaries of the Speaker and Chairman in light of the report.
It is pertinent to note that on June 6, 2025, the salaries of the Speaker of the National Assembly and the Chairman of the Senate were increased by more than 600 percent.
The Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs issued a notification regarding the increase in salaries, which stated that the salary of the Speaker of the National Assembly and the Chairman of the Senate has been fixed at Rs1.3 million.
According to the notification, the increase in the salary of the Speaker of the National Assembly and the Chairman of the Senate will be effective from January 1, 2025.
Earlier, the salary of the Speaker of the National Assembly and the Chairman of the Senate was Rs250,000.
The huge increase in the salaries of the Speaker, Deputy Speaker, Senate Chairman, and Deputy Senate Chairman was being heavily criticized in public circles. This is the first time that a high-ranking government official has criticized this move.
