Religious harmony and equality key to national unity, says DG ISPR

Rawalpindi: DG ISPR Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has stated that only the state has the authority to declare jihad; no individual or group has this right.
The Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, held meetings and discussions in Karachi with representatives from various religious and social communities.
Representatives from different faiths and social groups warmly welcomed the DG ISPR and expressed strong solidarity. They described their meeting with the DG ISPR as highly valuable.
Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry emphasized that followers of all religions in Pakistan are equal citizens and are constitutionally granted full rights. He added that national unity is sustained through equality and harmony.
The DG ISPR also stated that India is supporting terrorism in Pakistan and that the Pakistan Army is responding to the enemy with modern warfare strategies. He remarked that ethnic or linguistic hatred is a form of ignorance.
He reiterated that all Pakistanis are equal, and as long as they remain united, no force can defeat them. He concluded by stressing that only the state can declare jihad, and no individual or group holds that authority.
