Investigation has been launched into police's use of firearms during incident

(Web Desk): German police shot and killed an Afghan national after he attacked officers with a knife during an attempted arrest, seriously injuring one of them, according to international news agency AFP.
The incident occurred in the southern German town of Wangen, where two police officers arrived at the home of a 27-year-old Afghan man to detain him in connection with a previous assault for which he had been sentenced to prison.
In a joint statement issued by police and prosecutors, it was revealed that during the operation, the Afghan man suddenly attacked the officers with a knife, prompting them to open fire in self-defense.
Despite efforts to save him, the suspect succumbed to his injuries. One police officer sustained multiple stab wounds in the surprise attack but is reported to be in stable condition and out of danger.
Meanwhile, an investigation has been launched into the police's use of firearms during the incident.
Germany has seen a rise in violent incidents in recent times, some involving migrants, including knife attacks and cases of individuals running over civilians with vehicles. These incidents have intensified political debates over immigration policies in the country.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has recently initiated stricter measures against illegal immigration, which include turning away undocumented migrants at the border in an effort to tighten border control.
