Ban on pillion riding will be effective on Muharram 9 and 10


Lahore: To maintain law and order and in view of security concerns during Muharram, the Punjab government has imposed Section 144 across the province.
According to the Punjab Home Department, this decision has been taken in the context of a sensitive situation, which will be applicable from June 27 to July 6, 2025.
According to the notification, seven different types of restrictions have been imposed under Section 144, including a complete ban on processions, public gatherings, display of weapons, and inflammatory material.
The Home Department says that only approved processions and gatherings will be allowed during Muharram; no innovations or unapproved activities will be allowed. Pillion riding has also been banned across Punjab.
According to the Home Department, all restrictions will remain in effect from Muharram 1 to 10, while the ban on pillion riding will be effective on Muharram 9 and 10.
Instructions have been issued to all district and police authorities across Punjab that immediate action will be taken against those violating Section 144.
