Apple changes App Store fee in response to EU restrictions

California: Apple has always been a symbol of innovation and creativity, setting new standards in the world of technology. Its innovation is not limited to products, but also in its marketing, design philosophy, and user experience. Apple has changed everyday life with products such as smartphones, MacBooks, iPads, AirPods, and Apple Watch.

Recently, Apple has changed its App Store policies and fees in the European Union to comply with the European Commission’s antitrust rules. Apple was forced to remove trade barriers in its App Store to give developers more freedom and guide them towards external payments.

Apple announced new fees, under which developers will pay a 20 percent processing fee on purchases on the App Store, which can be reduced to 13 percent under the ‘Small Business Program’.

With this change, developers are allowed to redirect users to external payment methods, which will be charged a fee of 5 to 15 percent. The change is in line with the European Commission’s Digital Markets Act, through which Apple is expected to avoid a fine of up to 50 million euros. However, Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney has criticized Apple’s policies, calling them a ‘mockery of justice’.
