Google Search faces new AI-powered competition from OpenAI and Perplexity
Not much information has been released regarding OpenAI’s browser project

(Web Desk): Two major artificial intelligence companies, OpenAI and Perplexity, are set to launch AI-driven search browsers to rival Google Search, according to Euronews.
On Wednesday, Perplexity AI announced the launch of a standalone search engine named "Komi" for Mac and Windows, claiming it outperforms traditional browsers like Google Chrome and Apple Safari.
Currently, the search engine is only available to Perplexity Max subscribers and a limited number of users who received early invitations to test the new platform.
During testing, one user asked Komi to generate a grocery list for two different recipes using a grocery website and then inquired about how to cook both dishes simultaneously. The AI responded with detailed instructions.
Komi also features a built-in AI assistant capable of performing actions like clicking, typing, submitting forms, and auto-filling for the user. It can also manage emails and calendars while highlighting important news stories from a user’s feed.
On the other hand, not much information has been released regarding OpenAI’s browser project.
These announcements come at a time when Google Search is facing mounting challenges. Last week, an Advocate General of the European Court of Justice recommended rejecting Google’s appeal against a €4.1 billion fine for anti-competitive behavior.
Additionally, in 2024, a US district judge ruled against Google, stating it had established an illegal monopoly. The tech giant is also under antitrust investigations in Japan, Canada, and the UK.
