Inflation continues to rise; 19 essential commodities get expensive

Islamabad: The inflation rate in the country is continuously increasing, as a result of which the prices of 19 essential commodities have increased further.

The trend of increasing inflation rate in the country continues in the second week of the current fiscal year 2025-26. During the recent week, the weekly inflation rate in the country increased by 0.95 percent, while it had increased by 0.73 percent in the previous week. Similarly, the annual inflation rate in the recent week has been 1.23 percent.

The Federal Bureau of Statistics has released a weekly report on inflation, according to which the prices of 19 essential commodities increased in a week, six commodities became cheaper, and the prices of 26 remained stable.

During the past week, potato prices have increased by 2.79 percent, onion by 6.25 percent, tomato by 13.45 percent, garlic by 2.36 percent, jaggery by 1.89 percent, sugar by 1.90 percent, basmati broken rice by 0.84 percent, ​​and chicken by 22.61 percent.

In addition, LPG prices have decreased by 2.56 percent, mustard oil by 0.81 percent, dal moong by 0.41 percent, cooking oil by 0.20 percent, banaspati ghee by 0.02 percent, and flour by 0.02 percent.

The data further states that during the recent week, the annual inflation rate for the group earning up to Rs17,732 per month in terms of price sensitive decimals was -1.83 percent with an increase of 1.06 percent, while the inflation rate for the group earning between Rs17,733 and Rs22,888 per month was -2.79 percent with an increase of 1.10 percent.

Similarly, the inflation rate for the group with an income of Rs22,889 to Rs29,517 per month was -1.41 percent with an increase of 0.99 percent, for the group with an income of Rs29,518 to Rs44,175 per month the inflation rate was -0.59 percent with an increase of 1.02 percent, while for the group with an income of more than Rs44,176 per month the inflation rate was -0.04 percent with an increase of 0.88 percent.
