According to PBS, average price of sugar rose by Rs3.52 per kg over past week, bringing national average to Rs188.44 per kg

(Web Desk): The price of sugar in Pakistan has touched Rs200 per kilogram after an increase of Rs3.52 per kg within a week.
The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) has released new data on sugar prices across the country. According to PBS, the average price of sugar rose by Rs3.52 per kg over the past week, bringing the national average to Rs188.44 per kg.
In major cities such as Karachi, Islamabad, and Rawalpindi, sugar prices have surged to Rs200 per kg. Just last week, the average price stood at Rs184.92 per kg, while a year ago it was Rs145.88 per kg.
It is worth noting that the government had decided last month to import 500,000 tonnes of sugar.
The Ministry of National Food Security said that the decision was aimed at stabilising market prices. However, despite the import approval, hoarding and stockpiling continue to drive prices upward.
