Heavy monsoon rains lash Lahore, roads flooded

(Web Desk): During the fourth spell of monsoon rains, heavy downpours lashed Lahore late at night, turning the city’s roads into water channels. The intense rain brought a significant drop in temperature and humidity, making the weather pleasant.

According to the Meteorological Department, the highest rainfall was recorded at Chowk Nakhauda with 65 mm, followed by Lakshmi Chowk with 57 mm, Airport and Pani Wala Talab with 43 mm each, Jail Road with 42 mm, and Mughalpura with 30 mm.

On the special instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, WASA Lahore is fully active. Provincial Housing Minister Bilal Yasin has issued directives to keep all main roads and underpasses clear.

The Director General of WASA has ordered all field teams and machinery to remain on high alert at all times. The WASA Managing Director has instructed that all disposal stations should have standby generators ready.

Deputy Commissioner Lahore Syed Musa Raza has directed that all disposal pumps remain fully operational and their screens be regularly cleaned. He has also instructed all Assistant Commissioners of the tehsils to closely monitor any waterlogging or blockage and ensure proper drainage.

Commissioner Lahore Zaid bin Maqsood has directed WASA, LDA, MCL, CBD, traffic police, and the district administration to remain active in the field immediately. He emphasized that all emergency teams should be present at the drainage points and respond swiftly.

The Commissioner also stressed that emergency teams should remain active in low-lying areas, main roads, and adjacent regions to ensure drainage. All relevant departments have been instructed to ensure effective monitoring and prompt action in their respective areas.
