(Web Desk): An American Airlines flight bound for Miami was abruptly halted on the runway after a fire broke out during takeoff. Passengers were evacuated from the aircraft using emergency slides.
There were 173 passengers and 6 crew members on board. According to aviation authorities, the incident occurred due to a malfunction in the landing gear. As the plane reached takeoff speed, a loud noise was heard followed by smoke, prompting the pilot to immediately abort the takeoff.
Emergency response teams quickly arrived at the airport and brought the fire under control. One passenger sustained minor injuries, while the rest were unharmed. Speaking to ABC News, one passenger said that everyone panicked upon seeing the fire and smoke.
The airline apologized for the incident, stating that passengers were sent to Miami on an alternate flight, and the original aircraft has been removed from service for a full inspection.
