Anwar Ibrahim also faces accusations of interfering in the judiciary and protecting corrupt allies

Kuala Lumpur: Thousands of people marched in Malaysia’s capital demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in a large-scale protest.
The demonstration was held in response to rising prices, new taxes, changes in subsidies, and unfulfilled election promises.
According to police, around 18,000 protesters participated in the march, which moved through the city center and ended at Independence Square, where opposition leaders addressed the crowd.
Protesters chanted “Anwar Resign”, with many segments of society — including young students — expressing discontent with the government's economic policies.
Nur Shahirah, a 23-year-old student, stated that new taxes and increased electricity rates would further raise the prices of daily essentials.
Anwar Ibrahim also faces accusations of interfering in the judiciary and protecting corrupt allies.
Former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, who recently turned 100, also took part in the protest and accused Anwar of abusing political power.
It is worth noting that Anwar and Mahathir came to power together in 2018, but their alliance soon fell apart.
While Anwar has recently announced some measures to tackle inflation, public anger appears far from subsiding.
