Senior lawyer Khawaja Shamsul Islam shot dead, son among two others injured in Karachi
Police say deceased had survived a previous assassination attempt last year

Karachi: Senior lawyer Khawaja Shamsul Islam was shot dead, while his son was among two others injured in a firing incident outside a mosque in Karachi’s Defence Phase 6 area on Friday, witnesses and police said.
According to police, Khawaja Shamsul Islam had just exited the mosque after offering prayers on Khayaban-e-Rahat when unidentified assailants lying in wait opened fire on him.
As a result of the gunfire, Khawaja and two others, including his son, were critically injured. They were rushed to a private hospital, where the lawyer succumbed to his injuries. He had sustained three gunshot wounds.
Police personnel arrived at the scene following the incident, while the injured were shifted to the hospital. Police and forensic experts lifted circumstantial evidence from the crime scene and shifted the body for autopsy.
According to the SSP South, an investigation into the attack is underway.
Police further revealed that Khawaja Shamsul Islam had survived a previous assassination attempt last year, in which he was shot in the shoulder.
He was known for handling several high-profile cases and was a prominent lawyer in both civil and criminal matters. He was also regarded as an expert in land dispute litigation.
An FIR had previously been filed against him in a case involving a dispute with police in the Defence area.
