Pakistan unveils national AI policy based on six-pillar framework
The policy aims to build an AI innovation ecosystem, supporting startups and small-to-medium enterprises

(Web Desk): Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication has released the country’s National AI Policy, which outlines a six-pillar framework to promote the development and responsible use of artificial intelligence.
According to the policy document, AI centers will be established across the country, and funding will be allocated for AI research and grants. The development of local large AI language models is a key focus, along with efforts in innovation, security, transformation, infrastructure, and global collaboration.
The policy aims to build an AI innovation ecosystem, supporting startups and small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs). Initiatives are also planned to promote AI technologies in smart cities, healthcare, and agriculture.
The performance of the policy will be measured by increases in AI-related jobs and investment. A secure AI ecosystem will be developed to help mitigate cybersecurity threats.
The policy also emphasizes data standardization and promoting the responsible use of AI through public awareness campaigns.
Key national institutions including WAPDA, NADRA, FBR, and the health and education sectors will undergo digitization and integration. The policy encourages the adoption of AI across sectors through transformation and evolution.
Plans also include establishing national AI compute capacity and setting up AI hubs nationwide. The availability of AI datasets for research and startups will be ensured.
Finally, the policy seeks to connect Pakistan with global AI advancements through international partnerships and participation in global forums.
