So far, 25,000 people have been relocated to safer areas

(Web Desk): Federal Information Minister Atta Tarar, DG ISPR Lt. Gen. Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, and NDMA Chairman briefed the media on the monsoon rains and flood situation.
During a press briefing at the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, accompanied by the DG ISPR and NDMA Chairman, stated that urban flooding has caused loss of lives and property.
He said that on the Prime Minister’s directives, relief activities in affected areas have been expedited. NDMA, the Pakistan Army, and federal and provincial governments are coordinating to implement effective strategies. So far, 25,000 people have been relocated to safer areas, he added.
Tarar emphasized that timely information is being provided regarding the flood situation.
The NDMA Chairman said that glacier melting in the northern regions has contributed to the flooding. So far, 670 people have died, and over 1,000 have been injured due to rains and floods. Most missing persons have been found deceased. Flash floods caused by cloudbursts in various areas have worsened the situation.
He added that the Army Chief has directed all relevant institutions to actively engage in relief operations. Since August 17, 25,000 people have been rescued, and the injured have been transported to hospitals for medical care. The seventh spell of monsoon rains is expected to intensify until August 23.
The NDMA Chairman further stated that preparations are complete for the upcoming rain spell. The public is being informed through multiple channels. Under the PM’s ration package, a third round of aid — including food supplies and medicines — is being sent to five districts.
DG ISPR said the Pakistan Army is carrying out relief efforts in flood-affected areas on the Army Chief’s instructions. So far, over 6,000 people have received assistance. The Army Aviation is also participating in rescue operations.
He added that doctors from CMH and medical battalions have been dispatched to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where eight military units are engaged in relief work. Nine medical camps have been set up to provide care to victims.
So far, 6,903 individuals have been rescued. In Buner, two army battalions are actively involved in relief operations.
