White House joins TikTok amid looming us ban

(Web Desk): The White House shocks many by launching an official TikTok account, gaining over 300,000 followers in a single day.

According to broadcaster CBS, the White House launched its official TikTok account on August 19.

The move comes at a surprising time—just one month before TikTok is set to face a potential ban in the US.

The first video shared by the White House featured former President Donald Trump in a 27-second clip, showing him meeting and addressing supporters. The video garnered nearly 2 million views within a day, and within two days, the account had shared nearly a dozen videos.

Ironically, White House officials in the past have labeled TikTok a national security threat, which is the primary reason the app faces a potential ban in the country.

The US government has already passed legislation requiring TikTok to sell its US operations to an American individual or company. If it fails to do so, the platform will be banned in the country.

The law was originally set to take effect on January 20, 2025, but Donald Trump, using presidential authority, extended the deadline. He later extended it a third time as well.

Now, TikTok must sell its US operations to an American entity by September 17. If not, the app will be shut down in the United States.
