(Web Desk): Across Punjab, wheat prices continue to rise, with the price of a 10-kg flour bag increasing by nearly Rs300, now reaching Rs1,000.
Following the flood situation, the surge in wheat prices persists throughout the province. According to the Flour Mills Association, the price hike has significantly impacted basic flour products.
Asim Raza, a leader of the Flour Mills Association, stated that the price of a 20-kg flour bag has reached approximately Rs2,000.
He added that the government has imposed a ban on the transportation of wheat to other provinces, which has fueled corruption. Asim Raza claimed that bribes of at least Rs50,000 are being taken to allow a truck to exit Punjab’s borders.
He warned that in the coming days, there may be calls for wheat imports.
The association leader alleged that this entire situation appears to be designed to benefit a particular group, and that the same company involved in the previous wheat scandal is being favored again.
Asim Raza urged the Chief Minister of Punjab to take immediate notice and make efforts to resolve the issue.
Meanwhile, according to market sources, wheat prices in various districts of Punjab have reached Rs3,100 to Rs3,500 per 40 kg.
Sources reported that in districts like Bhakkar, Layyah, and Bahawalnagar, the rate has reached Rs3,450 per 40 kg, while in most parts of South Punjab, prices have climbed to Rs3,300–3,400 per 40 kg.
In Central Punjab, wheat prices have also hit Rs3,300 per 40 kg, and there are growing concerns that government wheat warehouses may have been affected by the floods.
