Indus River flood reaches Sindh; High alert at Guddu, Sukkur barrages

(Web Desk): The high-level flood in the Indus River has now moved from Punjab to Sindh, with extreme flood alerts issued at Guddu and Sukkur barrages. The situation in the riverine (Kacha) areas is becoming increasingly critical.

So far, over 1.5 million people have been affected by the floods in Sindh. In the Qadirpur area of Ghotki, the Muharram Zamindara embankment has broken, causing floodwaters to rapidly head toward nearby villages, raising fears of further destruction.

Authorities have issued immediate evacuation orders for residents living in low-lying areas, while relief teams are trying to reach the affected regions. According to the Irrigation Department and district administration, the next 48 hours are crucial, with increased pressure expected on other embankments.

The Flood Forecasting Division has issued an extremely high flood alert at Guddu Barrage for the next 48 hours. Flood victims from the riverine belt have taken shelter by setting up tents on Sukkur’s Saeedabad embankment, claiming that no aid has been received from the government so far.

In the Kacha area of Pano Aqil, a moderate-level flood is ongoing. Pakistan Navy personnel are actively engaged in rescuing people and relocating them to safer places.

In Naushahro Feroze, several villages in the Kacha area have gone underwater. Cotton crops and animal fodder have also been destroyed by the floods.

According to the Sindh Information Department, the latest data on river and barrage water inflows and outflows has been released.

At Panjnad, water inflow and outflow have been recorded at 658,845 cusecs.

At Guddu Barrage, the inflow is 506,433 cusecs, and outflow is 475,970 cusecs.

At Sukkur Barrage, the inflow is 440,985 cusecs, and outflow is 412,735 cusecs.

At Kotri Barrage, the current inflow is 258,004 cusecs, and the outflow is 254,354 cusecs.

These figures were released by the Provincial Rain and Flood Emergency Monitoring Cell, Government of Sindh, at 5:45 PM.
