(Web Desk): At least 193 people have died in two separate boat accidents in the African country of the Democratic Republic of Congo, according to international media reports.
The incidents occurred on September 10 and 11, approximately 150 kilometers from Equateur province. So far, 193 fatalities have been confirmed, while over 150 people remain missing, and search operations are ongoing.
According to reports, the second and deadlier incident took place on September 11 in the Kolela area along the Congo River. A boat carrying around 500 passengers caught fire and capsized.
The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs of the Democratic Republic of Congo stated that 107 people drowned and lost their lives in the incident, while more than 200 people were rescued. However, around 150 passengers are still missing and rescue efforts continue.
Prior to this, on September 10, a motorized boat capsized in the Bossonkusu area of Equateur province, resulting in at least 86 deaths. Most of the victims in this incident were students.
The exact cause of the boat accident in Bossonkusu remains unknown, and several passengers are still unaccounted for as search operations continue.
