‘System has been operational in Ukraine for a month and is being used to counter Russian drones and missile attacks’

Kyiv: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has stated that his country received a U.S.-made Patriot air defense system from Israel one month ago, and two more systems will be delivered this fall.
Zelensky told journalists that the system has been operational in Ukraine for a month and is being used to counter Russian drones and missile attacks. Ukraine fears that Russian strikes this winter could target heating infrastructure, so efforts are underway to strengthen air defenses.
The president made these remarks upon returning from New York, where he addressed the United Nations General Assembly and met with senior U.S. officials, including President Donald Trump.
After Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Israel initially adopted a neutral policy. However, tensions arose between the two countries following Moscow’s close ties with Iran and its statements against Israel amid the Gaza conflict.
Zelensky further said that several meetings between the U.S. and Ukraine will be held in September and October regarding arms purchases. Under this plan, Ukraine intends to buy weapons worth $9 billion from Washington.
