As per GNN sources, the shipment of Sinopharm vaccine from China will be brought in two days and the first consignment of vaccine will reach Islamabad today.

Sources said, a total of 3.5 million Corona vaccine doses will be brought from China including 2 million Sinopharm, 1.5 million CanSino.

China has so far gifted 1.72 million doses of vaccine to Pakistan.

The country has already begun a vaccination campaign. In the first phase, frontline health workers and those over age 65 were inoculated.

Earlier, Pakistan had received 2.5 million doses of the Moderna vaccine from the US which, according to Dr Faisal, is an indication of the strong ties between Pakistan and United States.

The doses were donated in partnership with the COVAX facility and the UNICEF, a statement from the US Embassy in Islamabad said.

Separately, Pakistan has also received 2.4 million doses of the AstraZene since May as part of the COVAX effort.

In January, the government announced it has secured 17 million doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine through the UN-led COVAX initiative.

So far, the country's drug regulator has approved the emergency use of China’s Sinopharm and CanSino, Oxford-AstraZeneca, and Russia’s Sputnik V vaccines.

The coronavirus situation is worsening in Pakistan with each passing day as the country reported nearly 5,000 new COVID-19 cases in last 24 hours, as the virus keeps spreading across the country.
