WhatsApp developing username system to boost privacy
So far, Meta has not officially confirmed the release of this feature

(Web Desk): WhatsApp accounts are currently linked to users' phone numbers.
However, this is about to change as Meta is preparing to introduce username support for WhatsApp users.
WhatsApp has been working on the username feature for quite some time, and it is not yet available even in the beta version.
But now it seems the feature might be launched soon, as the company has developed a username reservation system.
According to a report by WABetaInfo, the company has taken another step toward providing username support to users.
A new link is being added in WhatsApp settings, allowing users to reserve their preferred usernames before the feature is officially launched.
So far, Meta has not officially confirmed the release of this feature.
The report mentions that the “username reservation system” feature has appeared in the beta version of WhatsApp and is currently available to a limited number of users.
Once this feature is launched, users will be able to use WhatsApp without sharing their phone numbers.
Earlier reports suggested that once a user creates a username, their phone number will be hidden from others, significantly enhancing user privacy and security.
When fully introduced, this feature is expected to transform the WhatsApp chatting experience.
With this feature, every user will be able to create a unique username, which can then be used to connect with friends, family, and contacts.
The report also states that users will be able to change their usernames, giving them greater control over their profiles.
