Oscar-winning Pakistani filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy has joined the cast of ‘Don’t Be Late, Myra,’ a short film about a girl’s bravery, as an executive producer.
‘Don’t Be Late, Myra’ is directed by Pakistani filmmaker Afia Nathaniel and tells the story of a ten-year-old girl from Lahore, Myra, who embarks on a dangerous journey alone to return home from school.
The film stars Nida Ahsan as Myra’s ailing mother, while Sameera Sagheer plays the role of a school teacher. Other actors include Mushtaq Ahmed, Munir Hussain, Shahid Riaz, Rizwan Riaz and Sohail Tariq, who appear in various roles in Myra’s journey.
The film has been screened at several international film festivals including the Bergen International Film Festival, Montreal International Film Festival, Big Apple Film Festival, UK Asian Film Festival, and Woodstock Film Festival.
Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy said about the film that Myra’s story is very important and based on reality. This film describes the fears that every little girl faces, and highlights the courage and desire to survive hidden within them. It is an honor for me to be a part of this project.
It is pertinent to note that filmmaker Afia Nathaniel has previously directed the film Dukhtar, which was nominated for an Oscar by Pakistan.
