Quoting doctors, sources reveal police officer had been suffering from deep-rooted stress

Islamabad: Police have compiled the inquiry report into the death of SP Adeel Akbar, declaring the officer committed suicide.
According to sources, the inquiry report concludes that SP Adeel Akbar took his own life. The inquiry committee recorded the statements of Adeel Akbar’s operator, driver, and the doctors concerned.
Sources further revealed that, according to the doctor’s statement, Adeel Akbar had been suffering from deep-rooted stress. The doctor explained that such prolonged psychological distress does not necessarily result from a sudden incident; rather, those affected often carry the emotional burden of past events.
The inquiry report states that on 8 October, SP Adeel Akbar visited his doctor for a routine check-up. During the consultation, the doctor inquired whether he was under work-related stress, to which Adeel Akbar replied that he was content in his current posting.
Sources added that, according to the report, the doctor said Adeel Akbar had been disheartened over not receiving a promotion. The doctor also disclosed that Adeel Akbar had, on several occasions, spoken about suicidal thoughts. As a precaution, the doctor had advised Adeel Akbar and his family to keep firearms and sharp objects such as blades out of his reach.
The report further reveals that an inquiry had previously been conducted against Adeel Akbar in Balochistan, lasting two years. SSP Maroof had compiled that inquiry report, on the basis of which the then Additional IG imposed disciplinary action against Adeel Akbar.
As a result of that penalty, Adeel Akbar was denied promotion twice. About six weeks ago, he was posted to Islamabad to facilitate his promotion, reportedly upon the recommendation of his coursemate, SP Khurram.
According to sources, Senior ASP Adeel Akbar was given a shoulder promotion and appointed SP Industrial Area. He dutifully performed his responsibilities in Islamabad and had also completed his service assignment in Kashmir. However, he did not take part in the Muridke operation.
Police findings indicate that about an hour and a half before the incident, Adeel Akbar spent 35 minutes driving around before returning home. Shortly after, he called his driver and operator to his residence and went with them to the Secretariat, where he had a scheduled meeting with a Section Officer of the Establishment Division.
According to the report, at 4:23 p.m., the Section Officer informed him over the phone that he had already left and asked him to come another time. After taking a U-turn, Adeel Akbar went to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. His last phone call was from SP Saddar Yasir, during which they discussed an incident in the Sabzi Mandi area. Shortly after that call, Adeel Akbar took the operator’s gun and fatally shot himself.
