Islamabad: A special Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight Sunday brought another consignment of the Covid-19 vaccine from Beijing.
The plane carrying 680,000 shots of Sinopharm vaccine landed in Islamabad today. The drug was later shifted to the central warehouse of the Expanded Programme on Immunisation.
The vaccine doses can be distributed among the many provinces in keeping with their requirement.
On Saturday, 1.32 million doses of Sinopharm had arrived in the capital. The previous day, a batch of 64,000 jabs of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine had arrived on board a flight of a foreign airline.
Pakistan has signed an agreement with Pfizer Inc. for the procurement of 13 million doses of its Covid-19 vaccine. 100,000 doses of the vaccine had arrived in Islamabad in July.
The government aims to vaccinate 80 million people against the disease by year-end. The arrival of more doses will help the country ramp up the drive.
The vaccines have been purchased by Pakistan from the Chinese firm.
It is pertinent to mention here that China has so far gifted 1.72 million doses of vaccine to Pakistan. Besides Sinopharm, Pakistan is administering Moderna, Pfizer, Sinovac and Cansino vaccines to people as well.
