Islamabad: Another patient infected with mpox (monkeypox) and HIV passed away on Tuesday.
According to officials, the 53-year-old man, a resident of Faisalabad, was admitted to PIMS Hospital in Islamabad and died during treatment on Saturday.
Officials said the patient was suffering from mpox and HIV, and was also infected with hepatitis B and C.
Officials further stated that two mpox patients have so far died in Pakistan. The country’s first mpox-related death was reported in Islamabad in December 2023.
According to authorities, the patient had no travel history and contracted the disease locally. Clear evidence of the spread of mpox exists in Pakistan, and 53 cases were reported across the country last year.
