Islamabad: Pakistan successfully targeted and destroyed seven terrorist hideouts in an area along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border late Saturday night, according to official sources.
Details indicate that the Federal Ministry of Information and Broadcasting stated Pakistan carried out a successful intelligence-based operation in the border region, targeting seven terrorist camps affiliated with Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), referred to by the government as Fitna al-Khawarij, as well as Islamic State militants.
According to the statement, recent attacks particularly the Bannu incident were planned under the directions of militant leadership based in Afghanistan.
The statement added that responsibility for these attacks had been claimed by the Pakistan-based Taliban faction operating from Afghan territory.
The Ministry further said that Pakistan has repeatedly urged the Afghan Taliban government to take verifiable actions to prevent its soil from being used by terrorist organizations and proxy elements. However, it stated that the Afghan interim government has failed to take effective measures in this regard.
Pakistan reportedly targeted the terrorist camps and hideouts with precision, emphasizing that the objective of the operation was to prevent foreign proxies from using Afghan territory to carry out terrorist activities against Pakistan.
The Ministry of Information said the retaliatory action was taken to ensure the safety of Pakistani citizens, based on credible intelligence.
While reiterating that Pakistan seeks peace and stability in the region, the statement stressed that the protection of its people remains the country’s foremost priority.
The statement also called on the international community to press the Taliban to uphold their commitments under the Doha Agreement, emphasizing that preventing Afghan soil from being used against other countries is essential for regional and global security.
