Rawalpindi: Pakistan Navy has launched Operation Muhafiz Al‑Bahr in view of the evolving regional maritime security situation.
According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operation aims to counter the multi-dimensional threats faced by national shipping and maritime trade. The initiative has been launched to ensure the continuity of national energy supplies and the security of sea lines of communication.
The ISPR spokesperson stated that Pakistan Navy’s escort operations are being carried out in close coordination with the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation. The navy is fully aware of the current maritime situation and is continuously monitoring the movement of merchant vessels.
To ensure the safe passage of merchant ships, their movements are being closely monitored and controlled.
ISPR further stated that nearly 90 percent of Pakistan’s trade is conducted through sea routes. The operation aims to keep vital maritime routes secure, stable, and uninterrupted. Currently, Pakistan Navy ships are escorting two merchant vessels, one of which is expected to arrive in Karachi today.
The statement added that the Pakistan Navy is fully prepared to deal with emerging maritime security challenges and remains committed to safeguarding national shipping and regional maritime security.
