Islamabad: Pakistan has allowed the export of a wide range of goods to Iran, including rice, seafood and pharmaceutical products.

In a significant move to enhance trade with Central Asian countries, Pakistan has granted a temporary exemption from the requirement of bank guarantees and letters of credit for exports routed through Iran.

According to an official statement, the Ministry of Commerce has approved a temporary waiver of financial instruments for exports to Iran and Central Asian states. Exports via land routes to Iran, Azerbaijan and other Central Asian countries have also been permitted.

A variety of goods—including rice, seafood, potatoes, meat, onions, maize and fruits—have been cleared for export to Iran. The concession also covers pharmaceutical products and tents.

The Ministry of Commerce stated that a partial exemption from State Bank regulations has been granted, while the condition to repatriate export proceeds within the stipulated timeframe will remain in place. The move is expected to strengthen regional trade links.

Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal said the special concession has been granted for a period of three months and will remain effective from 24 March to 21 June 2026.

He added that trade through Iran would significantly reduce exporters’ costs and transit time, and help boost exports, contributing to economic stability.
