Death toll in Karachi mini truck blast reaches 13
Karachi: The death toll in grenade attack on a mini truck carrying nearly two dozen has reached 13 Sunday— victims were returning home after attending a marriage ceremony.
The incident took place at Baldia Mawach Goth Morr. Wahab said the law-enforcement agencies are examining all aspects, Karachi Administrator Murtaza Wahab confirmed the incident on Saturday
Police said the explosion was much powerful. The injured were admitted to Jinnah Hospital and Civil Hospital.
The Bomb Disposal Squad officials, police, CTD and Rangers were on the scene to gather evidence and identify the nature of blast.
Moreover, Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah took notice of the incident and inquired the provincial transport minister about the reason behind the blast and if fitness certificate was issued to the vehicle owner.
The provincial chief executive further asked the minister whether the vehcile is registered with Sindh or the other province.
He also directed to financially compensate the heirs of victims.
The minister, Awais Qadir Shah sought the detailed report of the incident within 24 hours.
The Federal Interior Minister also sought report from the federal agencies and Rangers, saying the provincial governemnt would be assisted in investigating the incident.
The in-charge of Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) said it was suspected that some motorcylists threw a grenade onto the truck as the presence of explosives on the truck was not proved yet. He said that the grenade exploded before it could hit the floor of the vehicle.
The officer said preliminary investigations showed that the attackers were on a motorcycle.
South Zone DIG Javed Akbar Riaz told reporters that the incident took place around 9:45pm and the truck was carrying between 20-25 people.
