A powerful winter storm has tightened its grip in the Southern areas of United States (US) bringing freezing winds, ice and snow.

According to details, US President Joe Biden has implemented a state of emergency in Texas where an increase in demand for electricity has led to massive power outages.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has stated that more than 150 million Americans will be affected by the winter storm including Oregon, Kentucky, Mississippi, Alabama, Oklahoma.
"Over 150 million Americans are currently under winter storm warnings, ice storm warnings, winter storm watches, or winter weather advisories as impactful winter weather continues from coast to coast," the NWS said in a statement.
The storm even moved to northern parts of Mexico where approximately four million people were affected by power cuts.
The storm has disrupted air and road traffic, shuttering vaccination sites as well.
Flight schedule has been affected at several major airports including the George Bush Intercontinental Airport and the city's Hobby Airport.
The US Weather Service department has predicted up to 12in (30cm) of snow is expected in parts of Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas.
