Islamabad: Prime Minister Imran Khan will deliver the policy address, through video link, at the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly on Friday— outlining Pakistan's perspective on key regional and global issues.
Imran Khan’s policy address will serve to enhance Pakistan’s diplomatic outreach and engagement with its international partners and key institutions.
This was stated by Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN), Ambassador Munir Akram in an interview with Associate Press of Pakistan (APP) in New York.
Pakistan has always played an active and constructive role in the United Nations framework and supported the Organization in the effective discharge of its mandate for addressing various regional and global issues as well as contemporary challenges.
The address reflects Pakistan’s abiding commitment to multilateralism and affirmation of the United Nations’ central role in the maintenance of international peace and security, promotion of sustainable development, and respect for human rights worldwide.
Pakistan's Ambassador to the UN, Munir Akram said Pakistan will actively participate in the session.
He said Pakistan’s policy statement, to be delivered by Prime Minister Khan, is expected to convey Islamabad's views on the major global economic and political issues.
“Throughout the session, Pakistan will draw world‘s attention to the human rights violations in Indian occupied Kashmir, the imperative to stabilize Afghanistan, the need to combat Islamophobia and counter disinformation, being propagated by India, and to address the economic challenges confronting developing countries,” Munir Akram added.
He said Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi will participate in person in several events being held during the Assembly’s high level week including a meeting of the OIC Working Group on Jammu and Kashmir, a Ministerial meeting of the Uniting for Consensus group on Security Council reform, and a high level meeting on Energy.
Shah Mahmood Qureshi will also hold a number of bilateral meetings with his counterparts and the UNSG, address think tanks and interact with Pakistani community, businessmen and media.
