Prominent poet, renowned journalist and columnist Dr Ajmal Niazi passed away in Lahore, his family confirmed. He was 75.


Lahore: Prominent poet, renowned journalist and columnist Dr Ajmal Niazi passed away in Lahore, his family confirmed. He was 75.
His funeral prayers will be offered at 4.30 pm at Wahdat Colony in Lahore today (Monday).
Hailing from Mianwali, Niazi was best known for his columns for leading Urdu daily Nawa-i-Waqt.
Fans and members of journalist fraternity and politicians have expressed condolence over the sad demise of Ajmal Niazi.
Born in 1946, the scholar, poet, educationist and columnist was a lecturer in Gordon College Rawalpindi, Government College Mianwali, Government College Lahore and FC College.
Dr. Ajmal spent 45 years in the service of literature, he wrote poetry in Urdu and Punjabi as well.
Ajmal Niazi's works include Jal Thal, Mohammad-ud-Din Fauq, Be Niaziyan, Mihrab in the Temple and Hameed Nizami's biography.
He was also awarded the ‘Sitara-e-Imtiaz’ by the government of Pakistan for his services.
