Islamabad: Prime Minister Imran Khan has approved the appointment of Lieutenant General Nadeem Anjum as Inter-Services Intelligence director general.


A notification has been issued by the Ministry fo Defense after approval from the Prime Minister of Pakistan.
Nadeem Anjum has replaced Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed. The notification will be applicable from November 20, 2021.

Lt Gen Faiz Hameed will continue to serve as ISI DG as of November 19.
Earlier, the notification from the Prime Minister's Office had been awaited since nearly three weeks or so. The appoitment drew controversy as the governemnt and the Pakistan Army reportedly developed 'standoff' over the names.
On October 6, 2021, the militray had announced that former ISI chief Lt Gen Faiz Hameed, had been made the Peshawar corps commander, while Lt Gen Anjum was appointed in his place.
A notification issued from the PM House said the new Director-General Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) will assume charge of his office from November 20, while Lt General Faiz Hameed will hold the charge till November 19.
The notification said the “The Prime Minister has seen and approved the appointment of PA-27007 Lt Gen Nadeem Ahmed Anjum, HI (M). The new appointment has been selected from the panel of officers.”
According to an earlier press release by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lieutenant General Faiz Hamid has been posted as Commander Peshawar Corps.

Lt Gen Nadeem Anjum, who was commissioned in service in September 1988, earlier headed Corps V in Karachi.
He was commissioned in 28th Punjab Regiment of infantry and is from 77th PMA long course. He has also served as Inspector-General of the Frontier Corps stationed in Balochistan from December 2016 to December 2018 and also served as Corp Commander of V Corps from December 2020 to October 2021.
He was de-facto appointed as the DG ISI on 6 October 2021, however his appointment is yet to be approved by PMO.
