Lahore remains most polluted city globally


Lahore: Provincial capital of Punjab has been declared the most polluted city globally followed by Sahiwal at second, Faisalabad—Manchester of the Pakistan—stood third worst-hit city by pollution all over the world.
Lahore’s Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded at 419 Sahiwal at 384 while Faisalabad at stood at 365 as smog and pollution gripped these cities.
The Air Quality Index data was released on Monday and put Lahore on the list of the most polluted cities in the world while Karachi came in fourth.
On the other hand, PM2.5 concentration in Lahore air is currently 75.6 times above the WHO annual air quality guideline value.
Lahore suffers from high levels of air pollution, with the city regularly ranking at the top of live pollution rankings of major global cities. However, pollution only rose to the top of the public’s consciousness in early 2017.
Health experts asked citizens to avoid unnecessary travel and to schedule their visits as per the weather conditions. Health experts also advised citizens to wash hands and face regularly and to wear mask.
Weather department also said that no rains and strong winds expected in the plain areas of the country.
