Court approves two-day transit remand of Agha Siraj Durrani
Agha Siraj Durrani has been accused of accumulating assets worth Rs1.6 billion
Islamabad: An accountability court in Islamabad on Saturday has granted two-day transit remand of Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani in assets beyond income case.
According to details, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader was produced before the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) court.
On December 3, 2021, NAB had arrested Agha Siraj Durrani from the premises of Supreme Court and shifted him to NAB Rawalpindi office where he underwent medical checkup.
Agha Siraj Durrani had approached the apex court for pre-arrest bail in the assets beyond known source of income’s case. The court had ordered PPP leader to surrender before the NAB.
Durrani was arrested in 2019. In October, the Sindh High Court rejected his bail after which the PPP leader went to the apex court.
Earlier, a team of NAB had raided the residence of the speaker following rejection of his bail from Sindh High Court (SHC) but failed to arrest him due to resistance from his guard.
It is pertinent to remember that NAB had filed a reference against the PPP leader, his family members and others for allegedly accumulating assets worth Rs1.6 billion through illegal means. Durrani was unable to account for a difference of Rs1.6b between his declared incomes from 1985 to 2018.
