Five people were killed and three others—including an officer sustained injuries after a gunman went on a shooting spree across the Denver metro area on Monday night, officials confirmed.

According to details, two women were killed and one man was injured in the first shooting near 1st Avenue and Broadway. Shortly after, another man was shot and killed near the intersection of 12th Avenue and Williams Street.

Reportedly, the spree started a little after 5 pm.

After being informed, officers were dispatched to the second shooting site (12th Avenue and Williams Street).

The suspect was reported in Lakewood just before 6pm firing shots near the intersection of Colfax Avenue and Kipling Street, killing one on the spot.

Authorities received a description of the suspect and his vehicle. A short time later, Lakewood police spotted the vehicle in the Belmar shopping area.

When the cops tried to make a contact with the vehicle’s owner, the driver fired at police.

The suspected shooter then continued his spree in Lakewood where two people, including the suspect, were dead and two people, including an officer got injured.

According to police there were additional shooting scenes at Sixth Avenue and Cherokee Street as well as Eighth Avenue and Zuni Street, but no injuries were reported at either scene.

A short time later Lakewood officers spotted the car in the Belmar area where the suspect shot at them and they shot back.

The suspect, then, ran away to a nearby business where he showed his gun, and went straight to a house where he shot one of the clerks.

The suspect then ran away and shot at officers, who shot back. This is when the suspect was killed.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating specifics about how the suspect died.

No other details were immediately available.
