Lahore: Punjab Minister for Health Dr Yasmin Rashid has been tested positive for Omicron new variant of COVID-19. 

The Omicron variant was confirmed in the genome sequencing conducted at Punjab Reference Laboratory after she tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday. She has quarantined herself at her home.

According to the Punjab Health Department, the provincial health minister has been confirmed by Omicron with variation detection kits. The health department also confirmed that Dr Yasmin’s health is now out of danger.

The health department further said that more than 90 per cent of all positive cases have been confirmed as Omicron. Therefore, citizens have been instructed to take all precautionary measures.

On Tuesday, Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid tested positive for coronavirus.

According to the spokesperson of the health minister Syed Hammad Shah, Dr Yasmin contracted the coronavirus first time and she has quarantined herself at home after testing positive for COVID.

The spokesperson said that she got herself tested after her son tested positive upon his arrival in the United States.

“Dr Rashid attended a meeting regarding dengue today, where the province's chief secretary was also in attendance. "All the participants of the meeting have been asked to get themselves tested."

It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan faces a rising number of Omicron cases.
