Sindh announces to keep schools open amid alarming surge in COVID-19 cases

Karachi: The Sindh government has announced new coronavirus restrictions as the latest wave of coronavirus pandemic fuelled by the Omicron variant gripped the province especially Karachi. Schools will remain open and classes will be held as per schedule

According to details, Chief Minister of Sindh Murad Ali Shah presided over a meeting of task force at CM House today and discussed the ongoing situation of COVID-19 in the metropolis.

During the session, the participants decided to make facemasks compulsory in public place and allowed entry of only vaccinated people in the markets. 

The meeting decided to keep the schools open continuing the educational activities.

The Task Force also decided to conduct a survey in all the hospitals including government and private to gauge their capacity of handling the growing number of Covid-19 patients and what else these hospitals need.

The Task Force maintained that wearing facemasks in public places was mandatory, which is also applicable on wedding halls, marquees and public places. The food should be served in boxes on wedding events, they directed.

Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah warned that government officers who would not wear facemasks would be fined. It was proposed that the fine should be deducted as one-day salary of the violators.

The Sindh government also decided to accelerate the vaccination campaign through the province because the surge in coronavirus cases, as the chief minister said, was due to ignoring the standard operating procedures (SOPs).

No substitute for selfless leadership of Imran Khan: Usman Buzdar

Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar on Monday has said that lamp of negative politics of opposition has gone out, there is no substitute for the selfless leadership of Imran Khan.

In a statement, Usman Buzdar has said that opposition leaders have become restless due to from power. “In Shaa Allah this restlessness will continue even after 2023. They do criticism just for the sake of criticism for improving their political impression,” he added.

He said that the people who polluted politics with corruption their place is jail. The chief minister said that there is not any substitute of selfless leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan. Pakistan has got truthful and honest leader. We performed those tasks in 42 months which previous governments could not perform in years.

"Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has done great work in three and a half years which the previous governments could not do in decades", Usman Buzdar concluded.

10 members of PCB staff members test positive for coronavirus

Lahore: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Monday has confirmed 10 positive cases of COVID-19 among its staff members.

According to an official statement released by the board in this regard, five members of the PCB staff, while five ground employees have tested positive for the virus.

The infected members have been isolated after their tests came positive, the board said in the statement, adding that the tests were conducted last week.

It is pertinent to mention here that the cricket board has already administered the booster dose of the coronavirus vaccine to its staff.

The PCB has said that all coronavirus standard operating procedures (SOPs) will be followed and all meetings will be virtual, while the staff will strictly abide by the protocols.

Four killed, several injured in Bahawalpur road accident

Bahawalpur: In an unfortunate incident, four students were killed while several others sustained injuries following a horrific collision between a troller and auto near Musafir Khana in District Bahawalpur. 

Police and rescue teams reached the spot after getting information and shifted the deceased and injured to Bahawal Victoria Hospital.

According to preliminary details, ill-fated auto was carrying school children.  

Police, however, started an investigation into the incident as the driver of troller fled from the scene.
