A part of a gas pipeline near Luhansk, one of the main cities in Ukraine's breakaway region of the People's Republic of Luhansk, caught fire late on Friday after a blast, Russia's agencies reported.

Reports citing correspondents stated that the explosion may be linked to a gas pipeline.

The pipeline was struck by "a powerful explosion," said a local natural gas supplier.

Emergency teams were dispatched to the scene.

Second blast occurred around 40 minutes after reports about an explosion on a gas pipeline near Luhansk, according to Russian news agency Interfax.

There were no reports of casualties.

The region around the city of Lugansk has witnessed some of its heaviest fighting since the start of the year in the past two days.
