My nephew was not part of incident at Masjid e Nabawi: Sheikh Rashid
The former minister’s nephew was arrested after he came back from performing Umrah in Saudi Arabia
Islamabad: Former interior minister and Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rashid Ahmed on Sunday said whatever happened at the Masjid e Nabawi (SAWW) was wrong and he condemned it, adding that his nephew was not a part of the incident.
While addressing a press conference, Sheikh Rashid said his nephew Sheikh Rashid Shafique was not at Roza e Rasool (SAWW) when the incident of hooliganism took place. However, he said he would not beg for his freedom. It was good for him to stay at jail for political training, he maintained.
To a query about his intention to take bail in a case in which he has been nominated along Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) leaders, he said he would not take bail before arrest from the court.
Earlier today, it was reported that the former Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmad’s nephew has been arrested by Government officials dressed in civilian clothes as soon as his plane landed at New Islamabad International Airport.
According to details, the former minister’s nephew, Member of National Assembly (MNA) Rashid Shafique was arrested by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) officials when his plane landed in Pakistan.
The former minister’s nephew was arrested after he came back from performing Umrah in Saudi Arabia and has been shifted to an unidentified location.
According to the airport sources, MNA Sheikh Rashid Shafique has been arrested for violation of the sanctity of the Masjid-e-Nabawi.
