Mexico City: Mexico's Navy said on Friday that 14 people were killed and another person was injured after a Black Hawk military helicopter crashed in the northern state of Sinaloa.

A navy Blackhawk helicopter carrying 15 people crashed near the coastal city of Los Mochis during the operation, killing 14 of those aboard, the navy statement said.

The Navy spokesperson said that the cause of the crash is being investigated,

However, there was no information indicating the incident was related to the arrest of drug lord Rafael Caro Quintero in another part of Sinaloa on Friday, the Navy said in a statement.

On Friday, Mexico's navy captured drug lord Rafael Caro Quintero, convicted of murdering a U.S. anti-narcotics agent in 1985, in a law enforcement coup.

Caro Quintero was captured in San Simon in the Sinaloa municipality of Choix after the military-trained search dog named Max found him in shrub land, the navy said.

The site was in the mountains near Sinaloa’s border with the northern border state of Chihuahua.
