California: The Meta-owned WhatsApp Tuesday revealed that it will now provide users with a 5-second window to undo the ‘Delete for Me’ action when it happened accidentally.

WhatsApp has rolled out its ‘Undo Delete for Me’ feature which will allow users to retrieve messages that they had mistakenly deleted—clicking the option ‘Delete for me’— within seconds of sending or receiving them.

This was announced by WhatsApp head Will Cathcart on Twitter. He stated: “We've added the option to undo 'Delete for me' for those times when you mean to delete for everyone but accidentally deleted for just yourself”.

To use this feature, users need to enable it in the app's settings. Once enabled, users can retrieve messages by tapping on the ‘Undo’ button that appears in the notification section when a message is deleted. The action can be performed in both personal and group chats.

Once the message has been retrieved, users can either choose to delete it for everyone or just keep it.

It is pertinent to mention here that if the snackbar disappears and user doesn’t use the undo feature, the message will not be recovered.

Additionally, the snackbar doesn’t show up for messages deleted for everyone.

The feature is available for both Android and iOS users.
