NAB summons Imran Khan, his wife Bushra in Toshakhana case
The anti-corruption watchdog has directed the PTI Chief , his wife and other PTI leaders to appear before it on March 9 at 2:30 pm.
Islamabad: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Tuesday summoned former Prime Minister Imran Khan in Toshakhana case on March 9.
Imran Khan, his wife Bushra Bibi and PTI's top leaders were asked to appear before the investigators. The accountability watchdog is probing the matter of alleged racketeering of gifts by the former prime minister, which he received from other countries.
NAB, according to the reports, obtained the records of gifts from the cabinet division and government treasury for investigation. The NAB Rawalpindi DG is supervising the investigation of the Toshakhana case, they added.
The NAB gave these directions soon after its Chairman Aftab Sultan tendered resignation from his posting, citing the personal reasons.
Aftab Sultan resigned from his posting after he refused to “toe the line” and he presented the resignation to the Prime Minister.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif accepted the resignation of Chairman NAB Aftab Sultan.
The Prime Minister appreciated the services of Aftab Sultan and lauded his honesty and uprightness.
The PM office in a statement said, “The prime minister appreciated the services of Aftab Sultan and lauded his honesty and uprightness. Upon his insistence, the prime minister reluctantly accepted the resignation of Sultan,”.
However, Imran Khan is now due before the anti-corruption watchdog on March 9 in Thoshakhana case.
It may be mentioned here that Thoshakhana is now a main focus of all the national politics after the ECP disqualified the PTI chief over “false statements and incorrect declaration” last month.
The ECP in its decision held that Imran Khan was found to be indulged in corrupt practices under sections 167 and 173 of the constitution.
It ruled, “A criminal proceeding will be started against him over filing a false statement,”.
The ECP also held that as per the statement of Imran Khan he had purchased the gifts from Toshakhana paying 21.564 million rupees while the Cabinet Division said that the gifts had a value of 107.943 million.
The ECP also decided that the amount in his bank account was around half of the value of the state gifts, holding that the PTI Chief was bound to declare the cash and bank details in his returns but he didn’t declare it.
