Lahore:  A writ peition was moved to the Lahore High Court (LHC) challenging detention of PTI leader  Asad Umar, the reports said on Friday.

Deputy Commissioner, CCPO Lahore, IG Punjab and Jail Superintendent were made respondents in the petition,.

Initially, there had been reports that the wife of Asad Umar approached the Lahore High Court but they all turned out to be fake as the family of Asad Umar strongly rejected all such kind of reports.

The LHC had earlier on Friday issued notices to Punjab governed and toerhs on a petition moved by Zaini Qureshi, the son of Shah Mahmood Qureshi.

LHC Justice Shahram Sarwar Chaudhry heard the case.

The judge sought the report from the government lawyer and adjourned further hearing till Feb 27.

Senator Ijaz Chaudhry was also the petition in the same case.

The PTI on Wednesday launched ‘Jail Bharo Tehreek’ [court arrest drive]  from Lahore.

According to the reports, around 300 to 400 people took part in the gathering of the party at GPO Chowk in front of Punjab Assembly.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Asad Umar, Azam Swati, Murad Raas, and other party leaders had presented themselves for arrest.  Following their arrest, the authorities shifted them to separate jails in different cities, saying the political leaders would be detained for 30 days under 3 MPO.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi was sent to Attock, Mr Umar and Mr Raas to DG Khan while Azam Swati was sent to Rahim Yar Khan jail.
