PML-N, PML-Q forge alliance for joint participation in upcoming elections
The latest reports say that PM Shehbaz Sharif and Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain discussed the current political and economic situation of the country.
Lahore: Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Muslim League Quaid (PML-Q), on Sunday reached an agreement to jointly participate in the upcoming elections, as per sources.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid a visit to the residence of Pakistan Muslim League Quaid (PML-Q) President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain.
During their meeting, PM Shehbaz Sharif and Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain discussed the current political and economic situation of the country. The PML-Q president appreciated the federal government's efforts in improving the economic conditions.
Both the presidents of PML-N and PML-Q also decided to develop a joint strategy for the forthcoming polls.
Sources revealed that Chaudhry Salik and Shafay Hussain will engage with PML-N's Gujrat leader, Abid Raza, to address election-related matters, and the two political parties would finalize their joint candidates.
Shujaat emphasized the importance of authorities taking action against the culprits and releasing innocent individuals from jail.
They agreed to impose severe penalties on those responsible for the riots that occurred on May 9. The meeting was attended by Federal Minister Chaudhry Salik and Chaudhry Shafay Hussain as well.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister also had a meeting with former MPA Khawaja Salman Rafique to discuss the country's political situation.
Earlier in the day, PM Sharif presided over a high-level meeting to receive a briefing on legal, economic, and political matters of the country.
Prominent leaders and ministers of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, including Azam Nazir Tarar, Musadik Malik, Ata Tarar, Khawaja Salman Rafique, and others, were present during the meeting.
The discussion revolved around the overall political situation in the country, particularly focusing on the ongoing cases in the Supreme Court.
Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar updated the participants on the progress of important cases being heard in the apex court.
Earlier, the federal cabinet strongly condemned the riots that took place on May 9 following the arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan.
