Jail officials refuse to release Pervaiz Elahi despite court order

Lahore: The jail authorities have rejected to release former Punjab chief minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) president Pervaiz Elahi on wednesday despite a bail order secured in suspicious transactions case.
Despite the bail orders obtained yesterday in the suspicious transactions case by the banking court, Pervaiz Elahi has not been freed from the camp jail in Lahore.
According to the jail staff, Pervaiz Elahi's release is not currently possible because neither surety bonds nor a robkar (mandamus) relating Pervaiz Elahi were presented to the banking court.
In a case involving questionable transactions, a financial court yesterday granted bail of current president of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and former Chief Minister of Punjab Pervaiz Elahi.
During the hearing, the banking court’s judge Aslam Gondal said that it would be unjust to keep Pervaiz Elahi in jail.
The PTI president's bail was later accepted by the banking court in the case brought by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). It has been ordered that the PTI president produce surety bonds totaling Rs. 500,000.
The investigation officer's (IO) decision to deliver the case file outraged the court, which then issued a warrant for his arrest.
The co-accused Saira Anwar had previously been granted bail by the court, the judge stated, although the former chief minister was not named in the first information report (FIR).
The judge stated that since the PTI president is already in custody on judicial detention, additional inquiry is no longer required.
Prior to this, the FIA accused Pervaiz of money laundering after identifying several dubious transactions.
After the former CM received bail in a corruption prosecution on June 26, the FIA quickly detained him.
