LHC moved against caretaker Punjab govt
Advocate Aftab Bajwa asks the Lahore High Court that the caretaker Punjab government has exceeded its constitutional limit and thus, it be declared null and void.
Lahore: A writ petition was moved to the Lahore High Court (LHC) challenging the legitimacy of the Punjab caretaker government of Mohsin Naqvi.
Advocate Aftab Bajwa, a senior lawyer, filed the petition and submitted that the Punjab caretaker setup exceeded the constitutionally mandated three-month period. He submitted that the Punjab assembly was dissolved, and the caretaker government was established, but it had been over 90 days since the dissolution, and the governor had yet to announce the election date.
The lawyer-petitioner contended that the continued existence of the caretaker setup beyond the specified period was unconstitutional and illegal, thereby rendering any actions taken by the government as unconstitutional as well.
He asked the LHC to prevent the Punjab caretaker setup from functioning any further and prayed the immediate removal of interim Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi from the office.
